Description
Piotr Dudek's artistic endeavors may not be easy to classify. His visual inspirations range from Paolo Uccello, surrealism through German neo-expressionism and from old Russian illustrations to comics and anything else that catches his eye.
His preferred material is paper. The paper allows the work to breathe, as it is his artistic philosophy to accept as many mistakes as possible, so as not to be controlled by intellect. His working method is organic and can be compared to that of a sculptor – compulsively building up the material and only then removing what is necessary.
The theme of his work is mainly figures in the form of humans and animals or both at the same time. Dudek tries to make the viewer wonder if these beings act in a rational way, or if they are driven by the chaos around them. In other words: “Do the things I’m looking at have a brain?” He also believes that giving titles to his works is an important part of the artistic process, where associations between images and words are a playground.
