Description
Giclée art poster by Aleksandra Kalisz.
Born in Gdynia, Poland in 1992 and currently residing in Venice, Italy. She studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and received her master's degree from Maciej Świeszewski's studio in 2016. In 2014, Kalisz participated in the LPP Erasmus program at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Spain. Kalisz specializes in painting, drawing, and installation.
Kalisz received the NordArt Biafarin Award - 2019 and the MEAM · Museu Europeu d'Art Modern award. She is currently working on her PhD thesis, which explores femininity in art.
Kalisz has been drawing and painting since childhood, and her works focus on lines and colors. Subjects are chosen based on her current interests and are often inspired by travel and different cultures.
In addition, she is continuously working on the "Act of Pattern" project, where she focuses on the delicate and soft forms of the female body. Through shadow play, she depicts parts of the female body covered by patterned materials placed on colorful backgrounds of ornaments. The paintings appear almost abstract, with the eye getting lost in the many lines, colors, and shapes.
The ornaments are primarily from the Middle East, where Kalisz is fascinated by their symmetry, colors, harmony, and rhythm. "Act of Pattern" is a reflection of travel and traditions, where she aims to combine two different cultures: European (female nude) and Islamic (ornaments).
